Welcome to Somervell County Extension

Somervell County is the second smallest county in Texas. The county was created on March 15, 1875 and named for Republic of Texas General, Alexander Somervell. The county seat is Glen Rose. The estimated 2000 population for Somervell County is 6809. Major employers include TXU Electric Generating Plant, sand and gravel mining, Glen Rose Medical Center, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Oakdale Park and Tres Rios Camp. The Somervell County Cooperative Extension staff support the mission to provide quality, relevant outreach and continuing education programs and services to the people of Somervell County. Educational efforts are targeted in areas of Health, Safety, Productivity and Well Being; Stewardship of the Environment and Natural Resources; Economic Security, and the State’s Economic Prosperity, Foster development of responsible, productive and self motivated youth and adults.

Extension programs serve people of all ages, regardless or socioeconomic level, race, color, religion, disability, national origin or veteran status.  The Texas A&M University System, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the County Commissioners Courts of Texas Cooperating.
